MGBW E-News 4/28/25: Fernando Promoted in Purchasing & Welcome Aboard, Cori!

Fernando Lopez Makes His Way to the Purchasing Helm!

The Accounting and Purchasing Department recently announced the promotion of Fernando Lopez to Purchasing Manager as we prepare for Nino Zizzo’s upcoming retirement.

Fernando is a Chula Vista native and attended Hilltop High prior to his first job as a ticket clerk with Continental Airlines (now United). He joined MGBW in 2008 as a driver, but his wide range of skills has allowed him to bring value to a variety of departments, including his role as Dockmaster of Fifth Avenue Landing and manager of Cabo logistics and inventory. Fernando is looking forward to further personal growth and career growth in this new position and shares words of wisdom to those looking to do the same: “The key to being successful here is doing the best you can every time and never saying no to a project.”

Although we’ll greatly miss Nino as he transitions into retirement on June 6, we’ll make the best of his time here and know that we’re in good hands once he departs after 12 years of dedication and hard work. He tirelessly implemented all the right processes and procedures to make MGBW’s purchasing department the strong buying arm that it is, mentoring Fernando along the way.

Keep an eye out for a spotlight on Nino closer to his last day and please congratulate Fernando when you see him!

Welcome Aboard, Cori Jennie!
You may have seen a new face in the Payroll Department as we welcome Cori Jennie, our new Payroll Clerk under Delia Lozoya. Cori shares an office with Lizzie and will assist her with timesheets and additional HR administrative tasks. She recently transitioned from her role as Payroll Timekeeping Coordinator at Deployed Services, bringing with her valuable experience in both financial record management and invoice tracking.

Cori is originally from the OC and moved to San Diego about five years ago with her wife. She enjoys staying active through softball with friends but also loves spending her downtime digging into a good mystery or thriller novel. When it comes to local cuisine, Operacaffe in downtown is her go-to for Italian cravings.

Let’s give her a warm welcome as she joins the MGBW crew!
